Mermaid Sailing Cruise
CRUISE FOR WOMEN ONLY
EGADI ISLANDS - SICILY
Mermaid Sailing Experience
Women and sailing, a perfect match!
In a sailing environment that is predominantly male, some women end up feeling frustrated or, worse, intimidated by the prevailing ‘male’ approach to sailing. But today we see more and more women at the helm of sailing boats, while the number of solo female travellers choosing sailing cruises is constantly increasing.
Our “pink cruises” are dedicated to women who choose to take a sailing holiday, debunking the stereotype of a market aimed at the male target.
The founder of Aquamarine and Shipowner Maya Devi, always attentive to social issues with twenty years of experience in women's yoga circles, with a spiritual vision of women, aimed at personal growth and evolution, has created the MERMAIDING SAILING EXPERIENCE, for all women who want to experience sailing in a relaxed atmosphere, of mutual support and encouragement where they can learn the first maneuvers of the sailboat, relax, meditate or do yoga at sunset, eat healthy and natural food, dive into the crystal clear waters in total freedom, share experiences and chats with other women living the holiday just for themselves, away from family commitments or partners, taking time to regenerate, get away from everyday life and treat yourself to an adventure at sea.
Maya will be happy to let you try a MERMAIDING lesson, swimming with a mermaid's tail, to make you feel like legendary creatures and swim sinuously.

THE SIRENS
In the modern collective imagination, the word siren evokes the image of a splendid UNREACHABLE creature, half human and half fish, who appears to an exclusively male audience and is capable of enchanting with her charm.
In the original appearance of the sirens, the marine component was not present: they were creatures that were half woman (from the bust up) and half bird (from the bust down).
This first depiction of the sirens is linked to the double meaning that they had to convey - that is, the siren had to be a beautiful and attractive creature for men, therefore with the appearance of a woman, but with whom it was impossible to procreate.

HOMERIC MYTHS
In the Homeric myths, the beauty of the sirens and their call disguised as melodious singing and crystalline warbling had the power to attract sailors to their rocks and then kill them;
The sirens lived and acted in small schools, as if to testify how (female) union makes strength.
Female union leads to a capricious and ruthless force that transforms grace into death, the passage to the afterlife. The beautiful and sweet appearance is a mere tool to charm the men who are nearby, in order to accompany them on the path to death.

ARCHETYPE
For millennia, the bird-woman/fish-woman has fueled fantasies and deluded men about their ability to tear the veil of the feminine seen and experienced as a heart of darkness.
Sirens have never been seen, so they do not have a body defined in detail - they are inside each of us - in that territory where the imagination mixes with reality
The impalpable part of the woman, that secret that no alchemy has been able to grasp, the unleashing of the senses that a female-female can set in motion.
No man is given the ability to fully decipher the tangle of mysteries that nests in the heart of a woman, of every woman, a biological diversity that becomes the abyss of the psyche.
The Siren embodies all facets, light and shadow: life and death; melody and torment; pleasure and cruelty; voluptuousness and torment; charm and witchcraft; annihilation; drops of sea and antimatter.
Constant in every narrative, time and culture, is the concept that they recall: duplicity – which is also in their tail – they are almost two sides of the same coin.
The sirens are also omniscient and able to calm the winds, perhaps with their song, singing the melodies of Hades.

SICILIAN MYTHS
Myths want the Sirens' home in the regions near the Strait of Messina, more precisely in Scylla and Charybdis.
The three siren sisters of the myths: PARTENOPE, LEUCOSIA and LIGEA They kill themselves by throwing themselves into the sea for not being able to attract a ship towards the rocks that comes out unharmed. This was Odysseus' ship.
Some legends tell of sirens in the Etna area, or the Scoglio delle Sirene in the archipelago of the Aeolian Islands, near Vulcano.
In literature, from the Odyssey onwards, the mystery of the sirens has found its natural habitat in the Strait of Messina, between Scylla and Charybdis, because " [...] here, in the land narrow in the middle of the sea, utopia lives... the myth of elsewhere".
In the twelfth chapter of the Odyssey, Homer describes them as "those who charm anyone who touches their shores with his ordeal while sailing".
In the Odyssey, the Sirens enchanted, and then killed, the sailors who incautiously landed.
The Sirens tempt Odysseus with the invitation "to know more things": the invitation to "omniscient" knowledge that causes one to lose one's family and civil ties, interrupting one's journey through life; their deadly island was strewn with rotting corpses. Odysseus, following Circe's advice, manages to resist the invitation, saving his life.
According to the story, the two Sirens who tempted Odysseus killed themselves by throwing themselves into the sea because they had not been able to hold the hero.
